Below is a list of the current appointed Club Officers, their roles and, contact details. All of them are unpaid volunteers, but without them N&UELSC could not operate successfully.

The roles they cover as described below are not an exhaustive list of the work that goes on within the club, and the Committee always welcomes offers of help with its activities, such as the running of galas. In fact the Club depends on the help it receives from volunteers from amongst parents/carers and swimmers.

Michael Laniyan

  • To provide direction for the club by effective leadership and management
  • To chair and control meetings of the management committee
  • To act as principal officer within the club, and make decisions whenever the need arises, in consultation with other officers when appropriate
  • To represent the club at external meetings when required
  • To manage the relationship with funders and stakeholders (UEL, ASA,Newham Active Trust, Sponsors, parents and members)
  • To be involved, where appropriate, in the co-ordination of club activities
  • To manage and oversee the work of officers and other club personnel
  • To present the club’s annual report, in association with the club secretary
  • To present the club’s annual accounts, in association with the club treasurer
  • To determine the content and agenda for club meetings, in association with club secretary
  • To ensure that club statutory documents and other returns are administered and filed on time
  • To advise the treasurer on the use and investment of club funds

Michelle Panyandee

  • To assist the Chairperson and Committee for the day-to-day running of the Club.
  • To represent the club at meetings
  • To have a knowledge and understanding of roles and responsibilities of other club committee members and volunteers

  • Prepare the Club’s strategic and business plans in association with Chairperson, other committee members, volunteers and Head Coach.
  • Responsible for maintaining Club’s Swim 21 status, ensuring formal review mechanisms in place, working with ASA, other committee members, volunteers and coaches as appropriate.
  • Responsible relevant SLA’s prepared (e.g. with Active Trust,ASA,UEL,) ensuring formal review mechanisms in place, working with relevant partners, other committee members, volunteers and coaches as appropriate.

Deborah Harouma

  • To act as a main point of contact for the club, maintain records and information in relation to queries, all administration and communications including competition events, affiliations, subscriptions, memberships, bookings, training of volunteers and mailings.
  • To deal with the day to day running of the club including all correspondence (both internally and externally)
  • To process and deliver appropriate correspondence and information to and from County, Region and National ASA
  • To organise committee meetings and AGMs, preparing agendas, taking minutes, and distributing and communicating these as appropriate
  •  To liaise with other club committee members to ensure all appropriate administration is in place
  • To maintain up to date contact details of all members, committee members, other key club personnel and ASA secretaries at national, regional and county level

The Club Treasurer is responsible for all NUELSC’s finances and for ensuring adequate accounts and records exist, and for managing the club’s payroll.

The Treasurer is also responsible for planning the annual budget in agreement with the club committee, for monitoring it throughout the year, and for ensuring that all funds are used appropriately. The Treasurer also also attends external meetings alongside the Club Secretary and/or Chair.

Kerry-Ann San Miguel

  • Responsible to Chairperson.
  • Assist the club to put in place the ASA Wavepower policy and procedures
  • Assist the club to put in place implementation plans for child protection
  • Be the first point of contact for club staff and volunteers, young people and parents for any issue concerning child welfare, poor practice or potential/alleged abuse
  • Ensure that all incidents are correctly reported and referred out in accordance with the Wavepower guidance guidelines
  • Ensure that all relevant club members, volunteers and staff have a CRB check and the opportunity to access appropriate child protection training
  • Ensure that ASA Wavepower procedures for recruitment of staff and volunteers are followed
  • Ensure all appropriate staff or volunteers have up to date criminal records disclosures/self-disclosures
  • Be aware of and have a note of contact details of the local Social Services, the Police and NGB ICPO
  • Ensure that codes of conduct are in place for club staff, volunteers, coaches, competitors and parents
  • Sit on the Club Management Committee to advise on child protection issues or be in attendance as necessary
  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained and information is only shared on a ‘’need to know’’ basis

The Membership Secretary handles the ASA and club membership records and fees for all of NUELSC’s members, including the processing of new members’ applications and the annual renewal process. The postholder also takes care of chasing any late membership payments, maintains a record of members’ details including contact and medical information.and processes any changes to members’ details such as changes of address.

Vacancy 

This post assists the Club Secretary and other volunteers with researching and implementing fundraising initiatives.

The Team Managers assist the Head Coach with supervising and co-ordinating club swimmers at competitions and galas to ensure that swimmers are in the right place, at the right time to race and in accordance with expected standards of behaviour and child welfare practice.

The Gala Secretary supports the head coach in maintaining a list of competitions that NUELSC swimmers attend and in collecting all gala entry application forms and monitoring and chasing up payments.

Parent Liaison Officers for each squad help to provide support to the Head Coach and Committee by feeding information on club activities through to the parents and swimmers and relaying information back to the Committee.  They are a key source of guidance for parents of swimmers new to swimming club and competitions.
