Well done to Ciara Purcell, Assistant Coach, and to all the swimmers who participated at the Redbridge Level 3 Meet on the weekend of 25th and 26th March: Newham & UEL Swimming Club competitors accrued more points than all the other 16 clubs taking part to win the gala’s top placing with a sum total of 1,690 points. With up to 46 swimmers competing in a total of 237 individual events, the team was admirably managed by Ciara on each day to perform to their very best, achieving a number of Essex County and London Regional qualifying times.
There is also grateful appreciation of the poolside support role carried out over the weekend by the parent volunteer Team Managers: Deborah, Lucie and Jennifer – thank you!
The role of volunteers …
With lots of competitions and events taking place for our swimmers (your children!), the Club is always in need of volunteers willing to take on some of the volunteer roles to help run the club. As a Team Manager, for example, you get to be on poolside during the event, so can usually get an excellent unobstructed view of your child’s swim, can help to calm the swimmers and help them to prepare for their race (and manage any disappointments on the day) – plus, you don’t have to pay for entry AND you get free lunch and refreshments! What’s not to like ….?
To find out about volunteering, speak to any of the current volunteers or coaches and they’ll point you in the right direction.
